Ronald McDonald House Charities Salutes 35 Years of Community Service

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of South Florida (RMHC) is unique in that many of its families come to South Florida from all over the world to receive high-quality medical treatment that may not be available in their home countries. Eight-year-old Nicholas Zapata came to the U.S. from Peru nearly nine months ago for a bone marrow transplant and RMHC has become his home away from home during these trying times.

In South Florida, RMHC has been committed to serving the community and visitors for nearly 35 years, having helped more than 30,000 families in Miami-Dade and Broward houses to date. RMHC South Florida is committed to seeing children and their families thrive and was founded on the idea that there is strength in numbers. Families like the Zapata’s find strength from each other, from RMHC staff and from volunteers.
Thanks to the community’s support of RMHC of South Florida, a well-rested mother can be at her son’s bedside to make informed decisions with his medical team; an older brother can help distract his sick sister with fun and play; a worried father can relax while telling his child a bedtime story. When a child must be hospitalized, it’s moments like these that bring relief from the pain and reduce family stress. RMHC helps keep families close—for serious moments and commonplace experiences—when they have a sick child.
As RMHC supports children and their families, the charity cherishes the support that the public gives to them. From dedicated staff and the local business community, to amazing volunteers and medical community – all have devoted time and resources to improve and change children’s lives. Because so many of you are willing to give to RMHC and help people you will most likely never meet, RMHC has been there, when needed, at no cost, for families facing medical hardship. The love it provides is funded totally from local donors like you and none of this would be possible without this continued generous support.
We are grateful for donors that drop their change in a McDonald’s canister;, those that collect pop tabs for us to recycle, those that provide donations to support our share a night program, those that donate their cars to RMHC or remember RMHC in their wills, and those that support RMHC in so many other ways. We know that better happens together, so please continue to help RMHC with our mission to keep families close!
This year marks a special milestone for RMHC of South Florida, as RMHC will celebrate having its doors open to families in need since 1982.
On October 21, 2017, RMHC of South Florida will host its 35th Anniversary Celebration – an evening of fine dining, signature cocktails, exciting live music, auction and entertainment. RMHC would like to invite everyone to join the charity and families to celebrate this occasion.
