Let’s Connect: SFHEF Spotlight

Thank you to all who are taking the time to read this healthcare periodical and column. Your participation in your healthcare community is key in your growth within your field. And healthcare is full of rewards; not just for your professional growth but also for the fulfillment of always seeking improvements to the population we serve first and foremost: our patients.

I have been in healthcare for close to 40 years, first serving as a clinician, and later working in education, leadership, consulting and now as an executive in practice management. It’s been exceedingly interesting to see how our industry has evolved, experiencing both the benefits and the challenges that we are all addressing. However, what has been the underlying tying factor is the community mindset we have in the American College of Healthcare Executive’s (ACHE) South Florida Chapter, the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum (SFHEF). I have served for more than 15 years in various capacities, and it has been very enriching both on a professional as well as a personal level.
Our mission in SFHEF is to continue to support our members through all of the changes in healthcare, be you a student in a healthcare program in one of our universities, an early careerist, mid-careerist or senior level executive. I am the Chair of the Student Case Competition event where student teams from various universities that are part of ACHE’s Higher Education Network compete and are mentored by senior level executives; we also offer scholarships for the students as well as Credit 1 face to face program for the members who are either preparing to take the Board of Governors exam, already a Fellow and needing the credits, or just merely seeking education and networking opportunities with your peers and colleagues. We also host an annual CEO breakfast event, where the topic of discussion is generally one of the top five items that keeps them up at night. It is our commitment to be there for all who serve.
Please come join us at one of our events, volunteer on one of our many committees, sit at one of our board meetings (they’re open to all) or just meet us at our educational and networking events.
Until next time, I’m Barbara Deppman ... let’s connect.
