HCA HEALTHCARE EAST FLORIDA DIVISION HOSPITALS RESTRICT INPATIENT ELECTIVE SURGERIES & PROCEDURES AS INPATIENT BEDS FILL

July 13, 2020 – HCA East Florida Division hospitals in Miami-Dade County will delay certain inpatient and hospital-based outpatient surgeries and procedures, effective Friday, July 10. This allows the facilities to create additional capacity for COVID-19 patients, preserve PPE and support staffing needs. This change does not affect surgeries performed at HCA Healthcare Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

“The number of COVID cases in our communities are increasing daily, and we need to ensure that our caregivers and hospitals are in a position to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to our patients, said Charles Gressle, President of HCA East Florida Division. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely, making adjustments as necessary.”

HCA East Florida Miami-Dade hospitals are working in partnership with community surgeons to identify appropriate patients for postponement of procedures that typically require a post-surgical inpatient stay.  Patients whose procedures will be delayed will be contacted by their surgeon. The hospitals remain safe and open for medical emergencies, deliveries and procedures that are medically necessary in which delay would jeopordize the patient’s wellbeing.

Sister facilities of HCA East Florida Miami-Dade in Broward County, Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast have implemented similar measures.
