Broward Health Awarded Susan G. Komen® Grant to Fund Every Woman Matters Program

Broward Health has been awarded a grant of $29,995 by Susan G. Komen® to support the healthcare system’s “Every Woman Matters” (EWM) program, which is aimed at decreasing the risk of premature death due to breast cancer in various female patient populations in Broward County, including low-income women, uninsured/underinsured women, foreign-born women facing language barriers and women who partner with women (WPW).

EWM ensures access to quality care through screening mammograms and diagnostic services, including ultrasounds, ultrasound biopsies, stereotactic biopsies, MRIs, MRI-guided biopsies, contrast-enhanced mammograms and other services. The program also increases the percentage of women who enter, stay in and progress through the continuum of care by providing testing that this target population could otherwise not afford. Many women are financially unable to obtain a mammogram, delaying care until they are terminally ill or when cancer is at advanced stage, which is costlier to treat with lower survival rates.
