Years ago, upon starting a Healthcare MBA at FIU, I had the pleasure of learning about the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum (SFHEF) and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). 

According to numerous studies, South Florida is among the most expensive Medicare markets in the United States today. Miami-Dade County alone sees the highest unadjusted health care spending per capita by nearly double the national average. 

For many people staying in assisted living facilities (ALF), being able to travel to doctors’ appointments is difficult, if not impossible. For the past year, psychiatrists at Larkin Community Hospital have made it easier for these patients 

VITAS Healthcare, a hospice pioneer, was established in South Florida in 1978, and according to Mary Zalaznik, has since become the leader in providing compassionate end-of-life care.

It has been one year since the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale launched their residency program in Internal Medicine and a good time to review the year.

Healthcare is a highly stratified industry comprised of clinical, technical and business experts. Managing in todays’ healthcare arena requires a significant knowledge base, which includes understanding the regulatory arena, 

 Florida International University (FIU) Healthcare MBA students have a unique opportunity to learn the skills hospital administrators most desire: understanding how Affordable Care Act requirements function in the real world.

Nearly 1,000 physicians and other health care industry professionals have earned MBA degrees from the University of Miami through its health sector-focused MBA program, since it began 37 years ago. 

The use of simulation in education is gaining great momentum in the medical and health sciences field. Simulation has a recognized history in fields from aviation to real-time processes like hydro-electrical and nuclear power plants.

It has been approximately six months since I assumed the position as founding dean of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D. college). The vision for the new college remains to establish a world-class medical school with a strong focus on excellence in patient care, research and education.
